Palm Springs Retreat

Airbnb Design

This is one of my favourite client stories to date.

My client purchased her old family home in The Range with a vision she had held onto since she was a teenager: to one day renovate the home and bring it back to life. The property was set to become a part time town house for the family and a part time Airbnb, giving the home a new purpose while retaining its connection to the family’s history.

Originally built in the mid 1950s, the mid-century modern home had undergone renovations throughout the 1980s and 1990s. While structurally sound, the interiors were tired and dated, with much of the original character waiting to be rediscovered.

For the Airbnb transformation, we embraced the home’s mid-century architecture and leaned into a relaxed Palm Springs aesthetic. The design combines warm timber, playful forms, natural textures and a considered colour palette, creating a distinctly retro feel that still feels fresh and relevant. The scheme was also carefully tailored to the Queensland climate, creating an easy, relaxed sense of indoor and outdoor living.

Rather than disguising the home’s history, the design celebrates it, paying homage to the original architecture while giving the property a completely new chapter.

The result is a beautifully considered five-star Airbnb that feels nostalgic, fun and effortlessly inviting, creating a space for the family and guests to enjoy for many years to come.
